Meinrad Kneer
Composition Double bass Improvisation
The double bass player, composer, improviser, bandleader and label director Meinrad Kneer moves musically on the borders of jazz, improvised, contemporary-composed and ethnic music. He has performed throughout Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, North Africa, Australia, and Mexico. His stylistic versatility has led him to collaborate with musicians and ensembles of various styles, including Najma Akhtar, Robert Ashley, Richard Barrett, Han Bennink, Iva Bittová, Bill Elgart, Ceylan Ertem, Fred Frith, Touria Hadraoui, Tristan Honsinger, Paul Lovens, Roscoe Mitchell, Jon Rose, the KNM Ensemble and the Marc Sinan Company. Current projects and groups as (co-)leader include the groups Baars/ Kneer/ Elgart, Meinrad Kneer Quintett, Phosphoros Ensemble, Rupp/ Kneer/ Fischerlehner and Dalgoo. From 1995 to 2012 he lived and worked in the Netherlands, since then Meinrad lives in Berlin and since 2006 he runs the internationally renowned label 'Evil Rabbit Records' for improvised music.
