Composer Improvisation Musician

James Banner (England, 1991) is an improvising musician and composer based in Berlin. His main projects include USINE , class-work , Practically Married , Nebbia/Banner/Andrzejewski and Borage . He creates electronic and acoustic music and collaborates with composers, improvisers and writers around the world for short term collaborative performances and longer term projects, recordings and commissions. James is part of Berlin's jazz, improvisation and real-time music scenes as a soloist and sideperson, and plays in contemporary chamber music ensembles at festivals such as PODIUM , Beethovenfest Bonn and IMPULS . James' own compositions, most recently presented by festivals and ensembles such as the Leipzig Jazz Days and the London Chamber Orchestra, are often rooted in protest against conservatism, British colonialism and contemporary isolationist politics - it is within this framework that he is currently developing his aesthetic vision of music as a statement and the embedding of lived experience and heritage in performance and compositional contexts.
