Trickster Orchestra
Orchestra
The Berlin Trickster Orchestra unites outstanding soloists in a collective of trans-traditional contemporary music. Under the direction of Cymin Samawatie and Ketan Bhatti, the orchestra transforms instruments from diverse global musical traditions into a contemporary musical language. With their secret knowledge and legendary revolutionary character, Trickster create chaos and disrupt universal orders to forge new worlds. In the same way, the ensemble works with new line-ups, improvisational concepts, composition and experimental approaches such as mimesis, not only to bring together different traditions, but to show a way in which very different musicians can develop a common contemporary music. In this way, the Trickster Orchestra, as a radiant international ensemble, is pioneering one of the most important socio-political debates on migration and diversity. 2021 saw the release of the debut album on the ECM Records label. In 2022, the orchestra won the German Jazz Award for Best Large Ensemble and the Hamburg Classical Music Award TONALi in the category "Courage for Utopia". In 2024, the German government recognized the ensemble by including it in the "Excellent Orchestra Landscape Germany".
