Cymin Samawatie
Cymin Samawatie (Iran/Germany) was born in Braunschweig in 1976 and works as a singer, composer, pianist and conductor. She studied classical percussion, piano and singing at the Hanover University of Music and Drama and jazz singing at the Berlin University of the Arts. In her trans-traditional version of contemporary music, she interweaves global instrumentation and musical traditions with urban live electronics, multilingual lyricism and free improvisation in a witty, expressive and highly experimental manner. Samawatie has released her most recent four albums on the ECM Records label, which have been highly acclaimed both in Germany and internationally. Her poems often become libretti for her pieces and address the brokenness of a world that has become homeless and utopias of a wholesome togetherness.
